SAFED Training – GBA’s Vision to Drive to a Sustainable Future

SAFED Training – GBA’s Vision to Drive to a Sustainable Future.

In 2021 we implemented a driver development strategy to enhance our teams’ skills and abilities to perform safe and fuel-efficient driving.

This training course is designed to motivate, educate and develop all GBA drivers and in turn help us to achieve our business goals by providing driver development, reducing GBA’s environmental impact and increasing our profitability.

Two years on, we are staying committed to our objectives on sustainability and encouraging our drivers to take SAFED courses to ensure our environmental impact continues to be as minimal as possible. Upon completion, our drivers will be qualified to teach the SAFED training courses to fellow GBA drivers ensuring our people stay informed and conscious of their impacts on the planet.

Laying the foundations for education in Sierra Leone

Laying the foundations for education in Sierra Leone.

Our HR Director, Jane Dawe and Paul Birkbeck, Managing Director – Fleet Management, recently visited Sierra Leone to witness the amazing work that is going on at the ‘New Hope Academy’. GBA Logistics are very proud to be working with the International Aid Trust, building the secondary school in Lungi, Sierra Leone.

International Aid Trust started working with this community 13 years ago and built the New Hope Primary school. This took children off the streets and provided them with a safe place to learn with food each day.

New Hope Academy will see the children continuing education through secondary school.

“Education is something all children should have and something we take for granted. New Hope Academy will have such an impact on the lives of hundreds and hundreds of children and will provide opportunities in the future”.

Jane Dawe, HR Director, GBA Logistics

Here’s a few photos of the Directors laying some of the founding bricks at the Foundation Ceremony.

A North West-based logistics company has acquired a new fleet of alternative fuelled vehicles with seven-figure support from HSBC UK.

GBA Logistics, which has utilised a HSBC UK funding package, has snapped up a total of ten Scania Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicles to add to its existing diesel-powered fleet.

It marks the first major alternative fuels investment for GBA as it works towards a 2040 Net Zero target.

The vehicles will operate on specific routes in the North and East of the UK, with the potential to expand to other regions.

Due to the HSBC UK supported move to CNG power solutions, GBA has achieved the 2022 target of a 9 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions from truck operations. The company is keen to emphasise the importance of the investment towards its commitment to reduce carbon emissions by 50 per cent  by 2025.

Deena Hamilton, sustainability manager at Preston-based GBA, said: “This is an exciting time at GBA as we make further additions to our existing two hundred vehicle-strong fleet.

“As part of our sustainability goals, we are committed to reducing our emissions and taking credible steps to invest in greener technologies. We look forward to further opportunities for decarbonisation as we drive towards a sustainable future.”

Jon Higginson, relationship director at HSBC UK, added: “The introduction of an alternative fuelled fleet to GBA’s services comes at an important time for the business as it moves towards more sustainable operations. It is fantastic to support their green initiatives and we look forward to seeing the wider positive impact this makes as the company continues to grow.”

The new vehicles at GBA have been funded with HSBC UK Equipment Finance, with support from Craig Onions, relationship director for Corporate Equipment Finance and Alex Wier, corporate account manager.

Founded in 1987, the firm is a total logistics supply chain operator, which offers traction services and time critical, temperature controlled and high security transportation.

The business currently employs more than 400 members of staff and operates from 18 different locations across the UK and Europe.

Ukraine Charity Appeal

Ukraine Charity Appeal.

GBA Logistics are grateful to have worked together with the charity International Aid Trust to provide assistance to refugees in Ukraine who are suffering from the effects of the ongoing war.

We helped to coordinate donations of essential items to people in Ukraine who are in need, such as clothes, food, toiletries, and medical supplies. We used our vehicles and our drivers to collect goods from people who kindly donated and delivered these to drop off points where they would be sent to Ukraine to those in need. We understand that it is currently a very difficult and trying time for people of Ukraine due to the ongoing war and are determined to do our bit to help the people who need it.
