GBA Enables Continuity During Severe Weather Disruption

In early 2026, extreme weather conditions across Europe and the Mediterranean region caused significant disruption to established freight routes. Severe storms in the Western Mediterranean led to ferry suspensions between northern Morocco and southern Spain, halting critical crossings relied upon within automotive supply chains.
Ongoing adverse conditions also placed pressure on port operations and vessel schedules across the region.
For several automotive OEMs and Tier suppliers, depending on dedicated road freight movements from North Africa into mainland Europe, these disruptions posed a serious risk to just-in-time production and threatened potential line stoppages.
To protect supply chain continuity, GBA rapidly designed and implemented an alternative multimodal solution centred around dedicated aircraft charters supported by coordinated road movements.
Working directly with customer planning teams, GBA secured dedicated aircraft charter rotations from key hubs in North Africa into mainland Europe at very short notice, providing a secure and time-critical alternative to the disrupted ferry and road links.
These aircraft operated on a structured rotation basis, ensuring a consistent and controlled flow of critical components despite ongoing weather-related disruption.
On both sides of the air operation, GBA managed collection and final mile delivery, including specialist handling for high-value consignments and full ADR compliant road transport where required. This fully integrated approach ensured complete visibility and control from origin through to the production facility.
As a result, customers were able to maintain uninterrupted production during a period when conventional transport options were unreliable.
These solutions clearly demonstrate GBA’s ability to respond decisively to external disruption, combining air and road capability to deliver resilience, flexibility and operational control when it matters most.
