Raising the Standard: GBA’s Commitment to Dangerous Goods Awareness
At GBA Logistics, safety is more than a priority — it’s a core value. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate the success of our recent Dangerous Goods Awareness Course held at our Seaham depot.
A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who took part, including James O’Hara, Shaun Coyle, Kyle Hearne, Rajesh Solanki, Natasha Drury, Lela Smith, and Katie Oley.
Your dedication to learning and collaboration across departments is a testament to the culture we’re building at GBA, one where knowledge, safety, and teamwork go hand in hand.

What is ADR and Why Does it Matter?
The transport of dangerous goods is governed by ADR — the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road. This legislation outlines strict requirements for the classification, packaging, handling, and transport of hazardous materials to ensure the safety of people, property, and the environment.
Under ADR, businesses like GBA must appoint a Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor (DGSA) and ensure that all relevant staff receive appropriate training. This includes not just drivers, but also warehouse teams, admin staff, and sales professionals — anyone who may interact with dangerous goods in any capacity.

What is Dangerous Goods Awareness Training?
Dangerous Goods Awareness Training is designed to give employees a clear understanding of:
- The types of hazardous materials they may encounter
- The risks associated with handling and transporting them
- The legal responsibilities under ADR
- How to respond safely and effectively in the event of an incident
This training is not just a box-ticking exercise — it’s a vital part of our commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Why GBA is the Right Logistics Partner
At GBA, we don’t just meet regulatory requirements — we exceed them. Our investment in Dangerous Goods training reflects our broader approach to logistics: proactive, professional, and people-focused.

A Word from Our DGSA
Colin Pratt, Director of Dangerous Goods Services Ltd and GBA’s appointed DGSA, recently delivered the training at Seaham and shared this feedback:
“It’s not easy to condense over 1,300 pages of legal text into a short course, but the GBA team were attentive, engaged, and committed throughout. It’s clear that GBA takes its responsibilities seriously — and that’s exactly what you want from a logistics partner handling dangerous goods.”
Moving Forward, Safely
As we continue to grow and evolve, GBA remains committed to setting the standard in safe, compliant, and customer-focused logistics. Dangerous Goods may be complex — but with the right training, the right people, and the right mindset, we’re ready to deliver.
